Jessica's Lullabye

piano - chris neville
bass fiddle - john abbey
strings - jubal fulks
vocal - robbie fulks

A satirist whose stuff I consumed as a teenager was recently revealed to have been sexually abusing his 6-year-old daughter at the time, or so she alleged in a tell-all book. The 1970s, which were fun at the time, are starting to look in retrospect like an open season for secular devil-worship and illogic.

Lyrics

Homeward, now flies the princess
Swift go the hours, starlight is precious
Gather ye pearls

Far-off New Jersey traffic
Grandfather’s breathing, up in the attic
Lie still, sweet girl

Cat’s-eye and amethyst, rings brass and gold
Sunflowers and soft chamomile
Bands fine as spider’s silk, strung pole to pole
Plucked by the hands of a child

Homeward, home’s where you’re helpless
And now I lay me, Father above us
Watch o’er the world

And Jesus
Sees us
Right through the stories we tell
You’re going to Hell.
