spirited away
Off to Japan for the next week-and-some, and will report when I return. The anchor date is the Country Dream Fetival in Kyoto, where I'll be playing with a rather large group of local country aces. The festival has been a big annual event since the 1980s, and unless I'm mistaken, I'm the first non-Nashville resident to be invited. I'm obviously flattered to be considered continuous with the Opry/traditionalist chain and will be very conscious of representing that noble legacy while I'm there.
The coolest thing about the gig, strictly from a what-do-I-get standpoint, is they cover my wife's travel and hotel too, which is a form of promoter generosity I haven't experienced before and one that I hope spreads. This will be our first trip away from home as a couple since 2002, and that trip was just two days in New York (a "working vacation" like this one), so this is going to be twelve kinds of fun. As the Japanese say, arrivederci!

Sounds like a terrific event, but will the Japanese "get" Robbie's sense of humor?
Probably not...
Oh I think they will get it!

I bet the whole audience will sing along to "Believe".
Schweet!!! I've no doubt they're gonna take good care of you. Have a great time, and don't be afraid to hit 'em with a cover of "Sukiyaki."
And don't forget a visit to Soapland!
