my astounding band in November
This fall, as I've mentioned, it's new record time for me, and the ad hoc group I've gotten together to help me is a real dream team, coming together in Chicago from New York, Salt Lake City, Nashville, and uh, Evanston. Mike Bub and Ron Spears are veteran grassers, Mike having played bass over the decades with Weary Hearts, Del McCoury, and Tim O'Brien, and Ron on mandolin and other stringed things with James King, Doyle Lawson, and Special Consensus. Jenny Scheinman has found her distinguished place in jazz but the violinist-composer has resources that defy even a pigeonhole that cavernous. And Robbie Gjersoe is my acoustic-music right hand -- not his fault.
Just prior to recording, we're doing a couple live shows in Illinois, flexing our fingers and getting ourselves more bandlike. If you live on the north end of Chicago you can see us on November 10 at Space in Evanston; if south/west, on November 12 at the Montrose Room in Rosemont; and if downstate, right in between on November 11 at the Hoogland Center in Springfield. We'll be playing a long-ish show, about two-thirds of which will be stuff from the future record and the other one-third the same old shit.
I saw something about tickets for the Space show going on sale online today so I thought I'd explain.

We're planning to catch the Hoogland show...might need to crash at Aaron's...
(kidding!)
Hey Robbie, I know it's been a year since Melissa and I have come out to see you, but we are going to try to make the Rosemont show. Dang kids are putting a cramp in our social life.
Looking forward to you coming back to the Hoogland. Can't wait to hear the new stuff and same the old shit.
Tom, we've got a guest bedroom, and my wife would make you a delicious breakfast.
