2,000 miles from the hideout

By Robbie on July 31, 2011

...but barring catastrophe I'll be there at the usual hour tomorrow night, holding court with my good friend Robbie Gjersoe, with whom I just finished a short run of dates here in the Golden State. Not much of interest to report from this sojourn, except that a recently recorded piece of musical work by Stephen Yerkey -- not sure whether it's out there for sale as of yet, we listened on an ipod on the way down I-5 from San Jose this afternoon and contains a song called "Translated From Love" -- is pretty fantastic and one-of-a-kind.

Oh, at the Hideout, I'm not sure what we'll do, but we might pass around a notebook for your song ideas as we did once last year. And maybe a new song of mine or two, and some bluegrass and a little jazz, dedicated to the guy I met at the show in Portola Valley who said, "I made a special trip to Chicago to see you at the Hideout last May, and I can't remember who played with you that night but you played way too much jazz."

Coincidence--I was looking around online just last week for Stephen Yerkey, wondering where he'd gone. I'll have to cast about for this new track.

Robbie(s) you blew the newbies away in Portola Valley, CA. Sorry your competition at Stanford Friday night was Maria Sharapova in the Semi-finals. She can't sing "Believe" and you'll never compete against her in a tennis skirt. You made a lot of new fans here...hope you'll return to the Nor Cal Tennis Club Circuit soon. You should have given Gjersoe a longer leash after the show; scary for him, he'd fit right in with the Santa Cruz Mountain boys.
Hardly, Stictly in Golden Gate Park???

Great show last night at The Hideout! My daughter and I are both classical musicians (she a singer, I a composer/pianist/conductor) --- and we had a blast. I'm a fairly recent discoverer of the RF world -- top notch for musical & entertainment level. Thanks for a great night.

Was a great treat to see you at McCabe's. The last time I saw you was perhaps the one (and only?) time you'd played in Orange County and I'd been jonesing for some RF in the Golden State ever since. And an added bonus that David St. Hubbins was there. Congratulations on resisting what must have been an overwhelming impulse to break out "Sex Farm". That would have just been awkward for everyone.
