this monday at the hideout
Happy McMorial Day! On the 30th I'll play an Irish set with Kathleen Keane (fiddle, whistle, voice) and Jim Conway (harp). We'll be playing tunes off Kathleen's latest and greatest record, some not-too-well-known fiddle tunes, one each by Boubacar Traore and Ralph Stanley, and a few of mine, including a stirring ballad I made up yesterday called "Don't Fuck With The Irish."
July 4 I was going to announce later, but since someone asked -- yes I'll be at the Hideout, but it won't be the usual thing. Whether better or worse depends on your judgment, but I thought what I'd do is bring a bunch of dead meat to grill, invite every local musician who's done a Monday with me, serve up free food, drop the donation protocol, and play tunes with whoever shows up. As always it'll be over with around 9, early enough for you to take in fireworks at Navy Pier. A little "thank you" for your weekly support over the last 18 months.

I live in Massachusetts, so I could have used the advice of your new song before meeting my first batch of girlfriends.
