coming to california

By Robbie on April 7, 2011

It might not be that (pardon the term) earthshaking an event -- I'll be there at least twice and maybe three times this year -- but I'm hitting the Golden State this weekend with my trusty sidekick R. Gjersoe, who is not a Norwegian child-molesting rapper but a jocular flatpicker. The public date is Friday at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. F&S is one of the best small clubs in the country for a purely music-performance experience -- a big reason why I play fewer clubs these days is that there are so few where you can be displayed to such advantage. The room and PA were intelligently designed around the idea of discriminating customers hearing and watching acoustic musicians, and the people that run the place aren't crazy in the head. Kismet!

I've seen quite a few shows there, including the first show of the new NRBQ (aka the old Terry Adams R&R Quartet) last Friday.

The Biddulph Arms and Biddulph Town hall are venues designed to show off an artist at their visual and acoustic best too...
