a little good news for friday, in case you didn't hear this
This morning on Sirius satellite radio's "outlaw country" channel Dallas Wayne played a cut from what he said was Lucinda Williams's next record. Man, it sounded really fine! "Buttercup," it was called, and the playing, writing, and production (by Don Was) all sounded crystal-clear, and the-good-kind-of-controlled, and just on. There's this kind of militantly almost-nothing lyric, on the edge of childishness, that she alone can make pay off. I won't give away much, but the first time the chorus hit, I felt a little "What was that dumb line that just sauntered past?" puzzlement; and by the fourth time, I was laughing and pounding my steering wheel, with ecstatic pops going off in my frontal lobe. If the rest of the record holds up to this, it's going to be something else.
OK, just wanted to share my excitement; now back to the grindstone, and enjoy your weekend.

I heard that track on XM "Loft" show and had same reaction. The DJ said "that is the sound of a band and a singer "in the pocket"". I don't know what that means, but my ecstatic reaction was "Thank god she's not trying to rap anymore".
I think "in the pocket" is a reference to good satellite radio DJ payoffs. ;)
Everything Don Was touches turns to gold!
